About Pleasant Street

If Pleasant Street Church of Christ had a written creed, this would be it; however, we have no creed but Christ.

The name Pleasant Street Church of Christ is not intended to merely be the name of a denomination, but rather a place for assembly of Christians -- people who have been born again, and who belong to Jesus Christ.

We are simply a group of imperfect people who are made one by our common belief and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Our loyalty is to Jesus, not to a human organization or creed. We believe that the Lord has given clear and sufficient information in the Bible to direct the lives of all who will follow. Each Christian is encouraged to study the Bible for himself/herself and to freely express what the Word says to him/her.

We wish to be Christians only, and we realize that we are not the only Christians in town. We love all of our brothers and sisters in God's family. It is our intention to make any Christian feel at home with us in whatever he may be; lonely, forsaken, depressed, forgotten, or driven out -- he will find a welcome at Pleasant Street as long as he is "reaching out" for a closer walk with the Lord.

We believe that baptism is a valid demonstration of one's faith and commitment to Jesus. It is always performed by immersion, in which one is buried in the likeness of the death of Jesus, and raised in the likeness of His resurrection; and, at that time one crucifies, through the power of the Spirit, the world unto himself. The Lord's Supper serves as a constant reminder of the fellowship that exists between Jesus and his followers.

We must confess, however, that we don't always measure up to even our own standards for righteous living. We try, but like other humans we fall short of the mark. We get angry when we should not; we tend to be neglectful; we fail to be patient and tolerant with the weaker brethren; etc. but our Father knows these things are not what we have by choice, but through weakness. We crave his pardon and we want so very much to be like Jesus, so we "press on toward the mark for the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

We believe in the literal indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the lives of God's Children, and we believe the Holy Spirit is a constant companion and helper, even though He must be grieved at times. We believe that God hears and answers prayers of His children -- He is not dead and He is not retired.

Pleasant Street church has only one enemy--Satan. It is our intention to regard every child of God on earth as our brother or sister. We want to treat each one as a child of our Father and receive them as God has received us. We exist for one reason only -- to glorify our Father which is in heaven, and the way we can do that is to be a servant to others. We exist for those who need us. So, if you have never accepted Jesus as Lord of your life, or if you are a baptized believer looking for a church home, please talk with us.

If you have a neighbor who needs someone to pray with, or who would love to study the Scriptures with someone, please let us help. But remember we don't have the answer to all your questions or problems, but we can lead you to One who is the answer.
